Chinese Herbs for Diabetes in New Jersey: Working Alongside Your Doctor

Chinese Herbs for Diabetes in New Jersey – The Oriental Herb, Cliffside Park NJ

About one in ten adults in New Jersey has diabetes, and roughly one in three has prediabetes, most without knowing it. If you are one of them and you are looking for Chinese herbs for diabetes in New Jersey, this page explains how we work: always alongside your doctor, never instead of them, with a formula chosen for your pattern and your medication. For the herbs and patterns in detail, see our main page on Chinese herbs for diabetes and blood sugar support.

How Herbal Support Fits With Medical Care

Metformin, GLP-1 injections, insulin and the rest do their job well. What they do not address is the whole-body picture that TCM sees in most diabetics: fatigue, thirst, frequent urination, numb feet, poor sleep, sugar cravings, and the dampness and heat that drive weight gain. Chinese herbal formulas target that picture, and several of their key herbs – mulberry leaf, bitter melon, astragalus, ginseng – have research behind them for post-meal glucose. Our rule is simple: your prescriber sets the medication; we support everything around it, and the two should know about each other.

What a Consultation Involves

  1. Your numbers and your medication list – recent A1C, fasting glucose, and every drug, including insulin and sulfonylureas, which change what we can safely use.
  2. Your pattern – tongue, pulse and symptoms. The thirsty, hot, constipated type (Stomach heat) gets a different formula from the tired, cold, swollen type (Spleen and Kidney deficiency) or the numb-footed, dusky type (Blood stasis).
  3. A formula and a tea – granules twice daily, often with mulberry leaf tea at carbohydrate meals; see Chinese herbal teas for blood sugar.
  4. Food guidance in TCM terms – warm cooked meals, bitter and green vegetables, no cold sweet drinks – which lines up closely with what your dietitian says.
  5. Monitoring – you check glucose more often for the first two weeks, and we adjust. Follow-ups every three to four weeks.

Safety Rules We Follow

  • We never tell a client to stop or reduce diabetes medication. If your numbers improve, your doctor adjusts the dose.
  • With insulin or sulfonylureas, formulas are started gently to avoid low blood sugar.
  • Ginseng is avoided with warfarin; bitter melon in pregnancy.
  • Numb or injured feet, blurred vision or chest symptoms go to your doctor first.
